This month I would like to talk about something I’ve been noticing more and more. Perhaps it’s because of the industry I’m in, or perhaps my baseball team just needs new and creative ways to get fans to the ballpark (it’s tough being a Mets fan!), or maybe it’s just because people like free stuff? Whatever the reason, it seems like promotional giveaway days are becoming more and more prevalent this baseball season.
Now I know there’s always been glove day or hat day, but the passed few years have shown companies sponsoring such well-advertised promotional items that they have become a major reason for people to come to the stadium. The New York Mets have free shirt Fridays; I know many people who will choose that day on the schedule over others just to get the free t-shirt, which is sponsored by a company with their huge logo on the back. I have a bunch of stats on this study, but the two that really stand out to me are:
- 48% of people own a promotional t-shirt. That means about half of the people you know own a shirt from a company years after the giveaway.
- 57% of people have more favorable feelings about the company that gave them a promotional t-shirt. More than half of people who receive a $5 t-shirt feel better about your company without ever even doing business with you. If that isn’t a powerful promo item, I don’t know what is!
So when you need your next promo item, be sure to think about a promotional t-shirt!
