It is always fun to work with a new client who is ordering promotional products for the first time. They have tons of questions and want to become comfortable with our process before pulling the trigger and moving forward with one of our amazing Account Managers. Here at Motivators, we enjoy answering your questions and making sure that you understand the Motivators way. So, below are some frequently asked questions for our newbies that I hope you will find helpful!
What type of artwork do I need?
We ask that artwork is sent over in an EPS vector format. This file is originally created in Adobe Illustrator. When a logo is created in this format, we have the ability to re-size it without changing or compromising the original image. If you do not have access to this program, or this file type, we can recreate your logo for a $30 art charge. This is a one-time fee, and we will keep your logo on file for future use. We can also send you a copy of the file for your own use as well.
What is a setup charge for?
The setup charge is a fee for setting up a plate with your requested logo/text to be imprinted on an item. This fee can range in cost for different items, and we even have items that are on promotion with a free setup charge. In many cases, we keep art on file for one-two years. This means, that if you reorder within a certain time frame, you may be eligible for a waived setup charge or reduced setup charge. If you are ordering an item with a multi-color imprint, there might be a setup charge per color as well as a run charge for each color after the first. If you are ordering more than one item, a separate setup fee will apply to each item.
What is a run charge?
A run charge is a fee that typically applies to an additional color or location. For example: if you are ordering a water bottle with a two-color imprint, you will find yourself having two setup charges (one per color) as well as a run charge for the second color. This fee is because we have to run your water bottle through our printing machine a second time in order to imprint the second color.
Is it extra for text and a logo? Or are both included?
The setup charge for each item will include anything that you choose to imprint within the available imprint location/size for a particular item. As long as a logo and text can both fit within the parameters of the imprint area, there is no extra charge! If the text and logo are too large for one imprint area, we might suggest going with a second imprint location provided that is an option on the item you are ordering. This will be an additional cost, but is an option for added brand recognition.
What is the turnaround time?
The simple answer to this question is not simple because the turnaround time will vary depending on the item. I know, I hate that answer too! Here at Motivators we have thousands of items that are available for rush service at no extra cost. These items can be found in our rush service category and can be completed in as few as one, two, three or five business days after art approval. Please note that the production time doesn’t include the transit time for shipping, which would be additional after production is complete. The standard production time for other items might range from about 7-10 business days after art approval plus transit time for shipping.
How is shipping cost calculated?
Shipping costs are based on UPS ground rates unless you have chosen to expedite the shipment. UPS takes into consideration the box size, weight and dimensional weight, as well as the ship from/to addresses. If you prefer to use your own UPS or FedEx account, we can certainly set that up for you. In that case, you will be billed directly by the shipping carrier and might incur a handling fee.
How many colors can I imprint on an item?
Some items only allow for a one-color/location imprint. It will depend on which item you choose and the parameters for that item. In other cases, we can imprint in multiple colors/locations for an extra fee. Our digitally printed items offer imprints in as many colors as your heart desires!
Can I order an assortment of colors for the item?
This is another question with a loaded answer! Many of our items could be ordered in an assortment of colors as long as the imprint and imprint color remain the same. Sometimes, we do ask that they are ordered in certain quantity increments (such as carton quantities). Ask your Account Manager for more information on assorted colors if you are interested.
Can I imprint a photograph on this item?
The best items to imprint a photographic image on will be those items that are digitally imprinted. In some cases we can digitally imprint directly onto an item, and in other cases we will print on a label that is then affixed onto the product itself. When sending over a photograph, please make sure that the resolution is over 300 dpi for the best quality printing and the clearest image.
When will I receive my art proof?
We send an email art proof with every order. We do ask that the order is placed before we send a proof, but you are not charged and your order will not move to production until the proof is approved by you. You will have the chance to work with our experienced graphic artists until you are 100% happy with the design and ready to move to production. If you wish to see a proof prior to ordering, ask your Account Manager about our Virtual Proof program, and they can get you all set up!
