Not For Sale

Here's a promotion that will definitely get looked at. Custom reciepts were created to draw attention to very worthy causes. These receipts were placed inside dinner check holders, and in the bottom of grocery bags. The receipts tell powerful stories and then direct readers to a website. While these aren't typical promotional products, they succeed at making the target audience take action. Powerful content...it's a beautiful thing.

The Peel Off Calculator

Here's an interesting ad done by MTV Brazil. In order to show just how many people they actually reach on a daily basis, they imprinted the numbers onto a general stock piece of cardboard. At the bottom, they've added cool promotional calculators that peel off. It's unique, and it's a great way to garner attention, but it's disposable! Who's really going to keep a disposable cardboard calculator?

Getting Up Close and Personal

No matter where technology goes or how far it advances, the New Kids on the Block said it best in an old ad for Coca Cola: "Can't beat the real thing." These promotional stickers for a drive thru safari at a Brazilian zoo portray that excellently. These custom electrostatic stickers were created to entice potenial zoo goers and then stuck on the windsheilds of cars.

The look is phenomenal, but advertisers never take into account that (and I've said this before)no one likes people putting things on their cars! There are so many other types of promotional items that can do the job without angering people.

Missing the Point

There are plenty of ways to be eco-friendly these days, and one of the easiest ways is by conserving water. Water is a resource that we cannot afford to loose. And yet, this fact seems to have escaped the minds of whomever created this ad.

Green Belguim wanted to mark World Water Day in a memorable way that would make people notice. So they sent out cards that could only have the "secret message" revealed if the reader held the card under water. So to read a message about how you should only be using water when its necessary, you have to unnecessarily waste water.

I may sound like a broken record, but eco-friendly promotional items could do this job so much better.

A Lush Promotion....

Unlike the business card guru below, these business cards aren't embossed or foil stamped. They don't pop up either. But they do help the environment considering the fact that they're seed packets. The card itself isn't a plantable promotion, but the grass seeds inside are. So while it may not be flashy, it helps the planet. And that's alright with us.

Happy Earth Day!

Here's a great promotion done by our friends at Post-It. They created a perpetual calendar using their super sticky brand of Post-Its. Only 24 Post-Its required to have a perpetual calendar that can be used over and over again. Great way of reinforcing the brand message for their Super Sticky Post-Its because its saying that the glue will stay sticky. And considering that today is Earth Day, we're all about reusable.

The only thing that could have possibly made this better is if they had used eco-friendly paper, but the reusable message is still being sent, so bravo for that.

Happy Earth Day everyone! And be sure to follow our "green tweets" all day on Twitter.

The Benefits of Recycled Materials...

We've all heard about the benefits of using items that are made from recycled materials and people have been recycling for years. You can now get bags that are recycled, bottles that are recycled and even couches that are recycled! There is one little twist to this awesome looking recycled couch, though. It's made from a car.

That's right. In South Africa, the car manufactuer Peugeot wanted to promote that their new 308 model that is 95% recyclable and to do it, they made a couch out of car parts. I must admit, that is one attractive couch. While I'm sure there are benefits to using a recycable car, it'd be better if it was more eco-friendly. If it were made from recycled materials, then it'd be excellent. However, being that tomorrow is Earth Day, we're all for anything that helps the planet. We try to do our part by selling recycled promotional products and planting trees for orders placed for eco-friendly promotional items

After all, there's only one Earth and it needs all the help it can get.

My Business Card is Foil Stamped, My Business Card is Debossed...

Here's a guy that really likes his product.

He speaks from the heart with a dead on sales pitch and shows you what works. His card "doesn't belong in a rolodex." His card is die cut. His card is foil stamped. His card is embossed. And if you happen to be reading this and don't understand what those things mean, be sure to check out our glossary of imprint terms. You can get a full explanation of what makes his business card so darn cool. And if you don't have four dollars a piece to spend on business cards that are foil stamped, die cut, embossed or that have a pop up feature, you can always purchase promotional items.

Considering that 84% of people remember the name of an advertiser on a product, I'd say that's a pretty decent investment. And promotional items don't fit in a rolodex either! Plus the names on the items are usually remembered, because people appreciate useful items that they get for free, like promotional umbrellas. I'm going to remember the name of the company that helped me out when I was caught in a down pour and I'm going to be thankful.

Stamping Out Drinking....

Here's an interesting promotion done by a club in India. In order to discourge drinking too much, custom stamps were created for attendees. The usual stamp that a patron would receive when they enter the club, was replaced by a stamp that read "If Found Unconscious, Please Call..."

The stamps are customizable so that patrons can give the attendent the cell phone number of a parent or friend, in case of an emergency. There are a few flaws with this plan, as I see it.

1. The actuality that each patron would take the time to give the attendant a cell phone number is a bit debatable. However, if it's required, that's another story.

2. The copy almost seems like it could be humourous to someone who's already been drinking. "Dude, if I pass out, they're calling you man!"

Personally, if they wanted to do something related to drinking and driving, promotional keychains are always a good bet. Maybe something with the imprint that reads "If Found Dead, Please Call" and then maybe a number for a support group or something like that. It would make more of a statement and definitely get some attention.

Spring Cleaning

What's the easiest way to advertise a car wash? By seeking out cars that desperately need to be washed. They're your target audience. It's an easy way to increase business, and it's something that worked for a car wash in the Ukraine. Of course, once someone writes "Wash Me" on your car, there's pretty much nowhere to run. You have to get it washed at that point. After all, JD found it to be the ultimate revenge on Scrubs.

However, what happens after the car gets washed? Sure you've increased your business for the time being or you've angered some large man who doesn't like people touching his car. Regardless, there's no follow up? Why settle for a one time sale? Personally, if someone pulled up with that ad on their car, I'd give them something by way of an apology. "Hey, I'm sorry I touched your personal property and drew attention to the fact that you're a dirty individual. Have one of these promotional keychains as my way of apologizing." Yep, that could work.

The Most Fitting Promotional T Shirt Ever

Intern (noun): a person who works as an apprentice or trainee in an occupation or profession to gain practical experience, and sometimes also to satisfy legal or other requirements for being licensed or accepted professionally.

That may be the techinical definition, but as anyone who has had an internship can attest, "practical experience" can range in definition. Interns can do great things like make copies, get coffee, go on errands, and do other menial tasks that have absolutely nothing to do with their chosen profession. As an intern, I stuffed envelopes and handed out flyers to people in Times Square. However, there are internships that do provide practical experice. In fact, JWT, an ad agency in New York offered intense 10 week internships that required their interns to actually handle daily projects and work weekends. They got them psyched for the task by giving them these awesome printed t-shirts. The front simply states their job title and is coupled with some screen printed sweat stains.

The back is clearly the best part. In addition to more screen printed sweat stains, the shirt's been ripped to resemble whip marks.

Edible Contact Info...

Ok so yesterday we highlighted some interesting edible paper from MTV. And if you thought that was weird, that was just the tip of the iceberg. Welcome to the next wave in promoting yourself: edible business cards!

That's right, just watch as potential clients gobble your contact info right up. They'll make their way around the trade show floor and if they get hungry, they can just nibble on that business card of yours. Sure, you can hope that they won't eat your phone number or email address, but when it comes to hungry stomachs, no one can make any promises.

Now, don't get us wrong. We here at Motivators are all about helping you get your name out there. But the promotional items we sell don't usually end up in the digestive tract, except for promotional food of course. But seriously, as interesting and/or nutritious as this may be, may we suggest logo flash drives? People are sure not to eat them and your company info will stay around a heck of a lot longer!

If This Ad Runs, I'll Eat My Hat

"I'll eat my hat" was a term often heard in my household when I was growing up. Never quite understood it though. I got the general idea, but I always thought that really is the stupidest phrase ever and I've never said it. However it just popped into my head when I saw this.

You've heard of plantable paper...meet it's tasty equivalent: edible paper. MTV Brazil created this promotion as part of a campaign revolving around sustainability. There are plenty of eco-friendly promotional products available, but this was a cool idea. They even created a website dedicated to recipes using the edible paper. A famous chef was invited to create the first dish and users were then invited to submit their recipes. This puts a whole new spin on promotional food...

Location Matters

There's something to be said for imprint areas. All promotional products have one, and some have more than one. It's in this key location that your logo will sit. It's this key area that will attract attention when your customers and clients use the products that you give them.

We usually advise choosing products with large imprint areas. The bigger the space, the bigger your message. And some of our items include more than one imprint area for just one setup charge. We know it's easy to get distracted by all the varieties of promotional products. For example, it's easy to choose custom pens based on price or shape or color. But it's important to consider imprint areas as well. They're often forgotten when it comes to choosing the product. But keep them in mind when you're shopping because it matters where you put your message.

Bringing Out Your Inner Beast

Originally, when I first came across this ad I figured it was fueled by the notion that by nature, men are messy creatures. However, after actually reading more about the agencies reasoning behind the creation, I've learned that's not the case. The purpose of this "man bib" to bring out the beast within. Simply put on the man bib and be transformed into a wild neanderthal and pound on your chest while emitting wolf like howls in the wildreness. Just look at this guy. He know's what's up.

While bibs aren't the most common promotional items, the bottom line is this: fun things grab attention. And this promotional bib, is definitely a fun thing.

Stealing Ideas...

Here's a unique ambient promotion out of India. When an increase in car thefts made headlines, India's number one car manufacturer took it as an advertising opportunity. After all, what better time to promote car security systems? These promotional keychains were attached to dummy keys that were then placed in the locks of parked cars.

According to Ads of the World, this resulted in 130% jump in sales of car theft deterence systems. That's a huge increase, if it's true. But why shouldn't it be? Promotional products can really affect sales! However, I'm still of the belief that if anyone touches my car, I'm not doing business with them.

Fishing for New Business

Here's an interesting promotion. An aquarium wanted to bring in more customers. So they created bus shelters with promotional aquariums in them. Aside from the fact that the temperature would be an issue, cleaning the tank would be an issue, feeding the fish would be an issue, this is a good idea. While I usually am more in favor of promotional items, this could work. Or it could go horribly horribly wrong.

15 Years of Promos...

Tonight marks the end of an era, or perhaps I should say an ERa. Finally, after 15 years and a long list of stars the classic medical drama will say its goodbyes. The three hour finale event has been touted all over NBC with classic "ER Remembers" commercials. One of the best I've seen is a simple one. It's just Noah Wyle reciting an old monologue. It then cuts into the episode and you can see Noah Wyle (as Dr. John Carter) continuing the monologue.

So after 15 years, you can imagine there have been alot of promotional products and there have been. There's numerous types of promotional apparel, including the promotional scrub top.

There's several types of ER promotional t-shirts available.

Of course, you can buy ER promotional drinkware.

And finally, they couldn't be a show about a hospital and NOT offer custom pens!

Once the show goes off tonight, it'll be interesting to see what items start popping up on eBay. In the meantime, hit up the NBC store while you can.

Product of the Day: Promotional People

Product Name: Human

Product Number: 2891

Why It's Awesome:

Promotional humans are an excellent way to boost your branding. Anytime they walk down the street people will be seeing your logo tattooed straight across some one's forehead. And unlike a promotional sweatshirt or hat, people will pay attention to a promotional human. How many times have you encountered promotional t-shirts? We bet they all look the same. But when a promotional human is walking down the street, people will think "What the..." And then they'll DEFINITELY see your logo. Because if your cool enough to brand a person, you've gotta be serious!

Better yet, you can train them to say what you want! You can dress them up or dress them down. They're available in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be processed with a full color imprint and there are multiple imprint options available! And due to the current economic crisis, promotional humans are on a blowout special. In fact, you'll be helping them and the government would be proud.

Note: Humans are shipped blank. Providing promotional apparel to your human will help it last longer, keep it warm and prevent run-ins with local authorities.

Additional Note: Please consider purchasing promotional food for your promotional human as well. Otherwise, it might get cranky and/or die.

Additional Additional Note: HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY FROM MOTIVATORS!
