Promote Autism Awareness

It’s April, and you know that that means? No, I am not referring to April showers, springtime, or the weather warming up. I am talking about April being Autism Awareness Month. According to Wikipedia, Autism is defined as, “a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and restricted and repetitive behavior.”autistm-awareness

Did you know that 1 in 110 children in the United States are affected by autism? Back in April of 1970, the very first National Autism Awareness Month was declared. Ever since then, the goal of this month is to educate the public about this condition and to give individuals with this disorder an opportunity to attain a better quality of life.

Over the years, so many people have benefited from this amazing cause. The main way this month is celebrated is through national, local and online events as well as activities with partnership opportunities. Many local affiliates hold special events in honor of autism awareness to educate and support the cause. Raising money to help with the research is also a main priority. Many businesses, schools and foundations join hands to raise awareness and money to help support these local and national events.

Some of the main events during this time are walks, benefits, concerts, golf outings, baking events and sensory-friendly programs for those families affected. These are all great opportunities for businesses and organizations to raise money for the cause as well as increase the public’s awareness of this disorder. Not only do they give exposure to autism, they also are able to brand their name alongside such a great cause.

Over the years, the main symbol for autism has been multi-colored puzzles and awareness ribbons. With so many events and fundraising possibilities, autism related promo items have also been growing in interest among the sponsors to sell and give out. So join the movement to increase awareness and raise money to help this noble cause!
