Raising Breast Cancer Awareness with Giveaways

Who can use giveaways to raise awareness for breast cancer? Just about anyone! Businesses of any size, from any industry, catering to any audience could use promotional products and customized giveaways to help support the cause.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) hits home for a lot of people. It is estimated that nearly 200,000 women and 1,700 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer each year, claiming over 40,000 of those women's lives and 450 of men's. Like with any cancer, there is no known cause or cure. That's why research and early detection are so important.

Survivors, families of victims, research foundations, charities, business, politicians, and anyone who wants to can support this noble cause to help raise awareness and funding. Get your name out there not only with awareness items but also through sponsorship as well.

If you're unsure about what items to choose, start with pink. Pink is the official color of breast cancer awareness, so choosing a pink imprint or pink item will go a long way for your campaign.

You can turn any item into a breast cancer awareness promotion, but here are a few specific ideas to get you started:

Ribbons & Bracelets are traditional breast cancer awareness items. Recipients can wear them every day in the month of October and throughout the year. Ribbons have become a national symbol for support while debossed rubber bracelets promote awareness. The two are the perfect combination for getting your message across.

Guides & Pamphlets are ideal for educating recipients on the risk factors and the importance of early detection. They often also include information such as how to do a self-exam as well as signs and symptoms. These items would be a perfect complement to something like a corporate or school wellness program.

Apparel like hats, hoodies and t-shirts have become increasingly popular breast cancer awareness giveaways. They are often worn at team charity events like Relay for Life or Making Strides. In addition to the name and logo, many companies and organizations also often include a clever saying on these items to draw in even more attention.

Bottled Water can come in handy at a race or walk for breast cancer. It offers immediate refreshment and a reminder that your organization cares about the cause and participants. You can customize the label and hand them out the participants as they approach the starting line or cross the finish line.

Keychains & Magnets are useful everyday items that recipients can use to show their support for breast cancer awareness and research. They can be used year-round and will be seen often. Clever messages and the distinct breast cancer awareness pink will be unmistakable and guaranteed to draw attention.

School & Office Supplies like pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. are also great for promoting breast cancer awareness because they are useful. These items are popular handouts and sure to be utilized on a regular basis. Simply print in pink and use them as giveaways at various NBCAM events.

If you're not sure where to sell or give away your awareness items, start small. Think of your office or school. Is there an educational seminar or wellness program that these products could be distributed at? If not, why not create one?

Breast cancer awareness products can be used to replace everyday items. For example, if you have a store where you sell goods, you could replace your normal shopping bags with pink breast cancer awareness bags for the month of October. If you're a shop offering a service - a salon, for example - you could even use special pink smocks to show your customers that your shop supports breast cancer awareness. Just think about the little things, and it will be easy to start seeing the possibilities everywhere.

And then, of course, you have countless breast cancer awareness events like walks, races and runs where your giveaways will fit right in. Hand them out to participants so that they have a constant reminder of the day's event as well as your brand. You can also sell your breast cancer awareness giveaways and donate a portion of the proceeds to research. This gives you the opportunity to not only show your support and get your message and name out there but also allows you to actively contribute to the cause and help find a cure.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but that doesn't mean you can only distribute or sell your awareness items during October. The months leading up to breast cancer awareness events are the perfect time to start getting your message out. Advertise an event you're hosting or sponsoring, or just get people excited about showing their support.

August is the perfect time to get a head start on breast cancer awareness. Order your products early so that you have plenty of time to promote NBCAM even before the fundraising events begin.

Another creative way to drive the message home is to send thank you gifts to participants and donors after the event. Show your appreciation for their generous donation of time and/or money with breast cancer awareness giveaways they can use as keepsakes.

Why promote breast cancer awareness? The better question is: why not? Promoting NBCAM is a noble cause that your customers, clients, employees and staff can get on board with. Show that you care about the hundreds of thousands of people this disease affects each year.

Now for the other question: why use giveaways to promote breast cancer awareness? There are tons of ways you can help raise awareness and funding but none as cost-effective as using promotional products. These items offer the biggest bang for your buck across all advertising mediums. Plus, people love getting free stuff - and free stuff that helps raise awareness for such a great cause - even better! It casts your company or organization in a positive light and gives you something to feel good about too.

So what are you waiting for? Build your brand. And get your pink on.
